Tig Notaro Makes Everything Better

All the Tigs, all the time.

All the Tigs, all the time.

Yesterday was a crappy day.

I woke up in a bad mood after a rough night and then had a crazy work day that involved conference calls where I had to explain how Google Docs and Dropbox are not the same thing. It didn’t go well. I swear, if one more person prints out my Google Doc, writes on it with a pen, takes a photo of it with their phone, then emails it to me I may lose it.

Anyhoooooo, I spent the entire day reciting the mantra “tonight we see Tig” over and over again until finally it was time to GO SEE TIG.

I’ll start out by saying that if you have never seen a show at Largo, I highly recommend it. I have been a ton of times and it is always an amazing amount of fun. Small venue, great prices, all ages, there’s a bar, and you can bring your own water bottles. Boom.

Secondly, I absolutely love Tig Notaro. I have had the great pleasure of seeing her live several times, and it is always pure joy in its most basic form. As someone with a ton of chronic illnesses (although honestly, Tig wins), I can relate to so many of her stories. She’s hilarious, adorable, and I always leave with an aching face from laughing so hard.

From what I heard, Tig will be appearing at Largo several times in upcoming months, so keep your eyes on their website and sign up for their mailing list and you’ll be thrilled with all great peeps you can see there…Sarah Silverman, Tom Papa, Fortune Feimster, and Nick Kroll to name just a few (I’ve seen them all and they are seriously the best).

Now, if you don’t live in Los Angeles, you probably won’t go to Largo. If that’s the case, then here are a couple ways you can enjoy the genius of Tig from your own home :

If you haven’t watched One Mississippi on Amazon you should do it. If you have watched it, do it again. I was so sad when the show ended, but I do understand why they had to do it (Louis CK, bummer). I often dream they’ll reboot it, and maybe one day I’ll be so lucky.

Also, if you haven’t watched Tig’s new animated special, Drawn, do yourself a favor and stop whatever you are doing and watch it. It looks to me like it’s actually set at Largo, which is delightful in and of itself, but you also get a very cute Tig in cartoon format. It’s laughs on demand! Hurray for streaming comedy specials!

There are also numerous other Tig gems out there, and all you have to do is Google her for a wide variety of awesome options.

Oh, did I mention she’s a badass helicopter pilot in Army of the Dead? Yep, that’s her.

AND if you haven’t heard her sing and play piano you have not lived.

I guess the whole point of this is that I had a butt of a day on Friday and Tig made it better…just like she makes every day better.

I appreciate the heck out of her for it.
