You Simply Are

I opened my eyes

and you were looking at me

right there

inches away

Weeks ago you didn’t exist

I had lived a whole life without

knowing you

years and years

without smiling between kisses

having your hands on my lower back

the smell of your skin in my nose

i walked around

not having heard your voice in my ear

your laugh

the breath as it leaves your lips

between sighs

your smell

takes up space in my lungs now

soothing my skin

calling me

to close my eyes and take it in

save it for later

when i’m alone

i scoot back in my bed

reaching for you

an arm around my waist

forehead on the back of my shoulder

water tastes different

the light through your window

caressing my face

holding me still

surrounding me in warmth

for a moment

everything melts

the cracked glass

only exists outside these walls

as i fight the beasts

i remember the velvet on my toes

the oil on my skin

the music filling the space around us

power comes in moments

strength in scent

joy in sensation

the space you occupy is forever yours

mine to hold when my lashes meet

your face in my hands

as i drift into the darkness

where nothing

and everything

exist at once

you’re real

you weren’t

but now you are

where hazy lavender meets sky

and the moon knows

that sometimes

it just is
