Tears Cloud the Daylight

there is that moment

right before the dawn

when dreams and deep slumber

begin to shake off the night

and return to the reality of day

where for one brief second

they can still hold you

the scent of their skin on your nose

your eyes loosely shut to enhance

the other sensations embracing you

a flash of time where nothing else exists

a bubble of flesh and laughter

kisses beneath the sheets

the silence of midnight

a cool breeze through a cracked window

yet in the glimmer of morning you reach for them

an empty bed beside you

your alarm sings in the distance

reminding you that they are not here

your loneliness returns, and you open your eyes

this is when the tears come

the memories of what never was

the reminder that it never will be

and the sunshine through the blinds is not pure joy but sorrow

as you will miss them until the safe cocoon of sleep.
